Dr. Jolly is a dental consultant, provider and educator specializing in general practice and forensic dentistry. A graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry, and earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1977. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Jolly is a diplomate of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry.
After completing a residency in hospital dentistry at the VA Medical Center of Leavenworth, Kansas, Dr. Jolly worked for a year in private practice in Newcastle, Wyoming, in 1979, after which he began teaching at the University of Missouri and accepted a position as the chief of restorative dentistry at Truman Medical Center. He became the director of dental oncology at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in 1982. Dr. Jolly joined the faculty at the Ohio State University in 1987, serving as the director of the general practice residency program and rose from an associate professor to a full professor by 1993. He left the Ohio State University in 2008 and served as the president of Immediadent of Ohio until 2013, whereupon he transitioned to become the dental director of a regional insurance company.
In addition to his clinical and educational work, Dr. Jolly is the chief forensic odontologist for Franklin and Licking Counties, and has served as an expert witness and legal consultant for numerous trials. He is a frequent speaker on various topics in forensic and medical dentistry, and the author of several dental textbooks and handbooks, including the “OSU Manual of Hospital Dentistry,” “Nursing Home Dentistry” and “Hospital Dentistry.” Dedicated to providing quality dental care to destitute communities, he maintains involvement as the director of the Honduras Clinic Project, and is a former board director of the Easter Seal Society.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Jolly held administrative leadership roles at various medical facilities and organizations, including terms of service as the president of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry and the American Association of Hospital Dentists. In recognition of his outstanding career record of practice, he is the namesake of a scholarship fund at the Ohio State University of Dentistry, and has been presented with an Ohio Dental Association Humanitarian Award, as well as multiple Alumni Achievement Awards from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
In accounting for his standout success, Dr. Jolly credits hard work, perseverance and a genuine respect for his patients. He is a fellow of the American College of Dentistry, the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped, the American Association of Hospital Dentists and the Academy of General Dentistry, and has remained professionally affiliated with numerous other organizations. In his leisure time, Dr. Jolly enjoys photography, swimming and scuba diving, and equestrian sports.
